Richmond to Clapham Junction (route via Willesden Junction)

I noticed on brfares.com that Richmond to Clapham Junction has a "via Willesden Junction" route. Oddly, while the rail ticket is more expensive via that route (compared to the direct route), the Oyster PAYG is cheaper, even though London Overground sets all those fares. Perhaps LO is pricing the rail ticket to get people to use Oyster.

Additionally, the via Willesden Junction fare is not mentioned on the Single Fare Finder.

The difference is that the Willesden Junction fare would be calculated as a Zone 2-4 TfL rate journey, while the direct SWT route would be calculated as a Zone 2-4 NR rate journey.

I don't know what you would actually be charged in practice if you touched the pink validator at Willesden en route. I suspect the Single Fare Finder on the TfL website is more likely to be definitive than the Fares Manual where Oyster is concerned.

Apparently these fares exist primarily to allow anyone with TfL-only concessions to access a discounted ticket.
