You can guarantee everyone else's will degrade faster than that, the rail industry traction electronics aren't renowned for being smooth (lots of very high speed fluctuations which won't agree with batteries) Tesla are a lot nicer to their batteries.

Well I’m no electrical engineer as you know!

Now we are in the "Green era" , what do we do with batteries at the end of their useful lives?

Typically, those in auto-applications are going off to be used in large scale energy storage systems. Tesla are, however, apparently developing a recycling process that recover the base materials that can then be reused to make new batteries.
