One of Network Rail’s modified locos. Originally was a class 37 (and is pretty much identical) but for the signalling type, it has been modified to work on the Cambrian Coast line and is the only locomotive that can do so (as far as I’m aware).

WCRCs 37668 and 37669 have also been modified with ETRMS/ETCS Signalling equipment, i dont think its ever used mind you.

Hopefully not, they are capable of bigger loads. If companies want locos there are plenty of 37s and 66s available for hire.
ah but then Network Rail will not allow 37s on routes that don't need them cos of emissions no doubt

My understanding is:
- 37s on 3J51/3J52
- 66s on 3S20-29
- 66s on 3S11 etc
- 56s on 3J77/3J78
- 66/97 on 3S71
- 56/70 on 3S93

Most of this is from Colas drivers and Facebook Gen, so not guaranteed to be absolutely correct.

Will they need to start route learning again soon, or will that not really be necessary as it’s all the same operators (and therefore mostly drivers) as last year?

I’ve noticed our Bristol circuit is 3S60 (continuing from 3S59) this year, now only run’s via Highbridge Loop on a Monday used to be Saturday and Monday. Assuming it’ll be 66’s again for us this year?

This Sunday's 3W90 is shown as VAR* (albeit still routed via the shut plumpton line), I'm guessing it'll start this week or next...

*VARiation of existing permanent working timetable. A var indicates a variation to timings to prevent clashes with other timetabled services where there might be engineering work etc, and does not necessarily guarantee the service will run. Added for forum policy rules.

Very unlikely, 3W90 is usually one of the first to start but almost always last or last but one week of September.

I would estimate 28th September for a start on that one.

You're right, I've just checked the freight master logs and it was later than I thought. No idea why I thought it was beginning of September.
