37254 top and tailing with 66850. It might be in place on Sunday but I heard the tractor is meant to be on 3J51 and they usually dont have a shed out that long.

Who wants to take photos of MPVs? Hardly the most interesting of subjects for photography, especially at night.

Prior to that excellent list of diagrams being shared on the previous page, I had formed the impression that the majority of RHTT circuits were MPVs, and hence couldn't work out why people got so excited about them every year haha.

I didn't realise there were so many, and that so many were still loco-hauled, as unfortunately the couple of circuits I regularly encounter are MPV worked.

Thanks as I say, fingers crossed a) it'll still be on that circuit on Sunday, and b) it's leading going towards Harrogate.

On second thought, it won't be the 37 on Sunday as there will be 3 free sheds, it's only on weekdays when the 37 will be required

A very quick question - why is there so much more fuss about the York circuits than everything else? I’m just curious.

tbf the york circuits have always been popular, the South yorks circuit was the last RHTT diagram to have regularly booked class 20s and as of right now 3J51 is one of the only regularly booked class 37 diagrams, the other being the 97s in wales.

The 37s are quite popular as they're old locomotives and make a good sound, especially under thr shed at York. It's an interesting thing to go out and see as it's a fairly regular chance to see an older locomotive still on the mainline.

For me personally, the Harrogate line sees DMUs, DMUs, and DMUs. The only interesting thing on there is the RHTT.

All diagrams will finish between the 1st and 2nd weeks of December. This has been the case for the last 5 years at least. I will be surprised if anything runs past the 15th of December.

Operation of RHTTs often gets extended past its planned finish date if not all the leaves are down - maybe not where you are, but in some places. Generally a cold snap/frost or high winds bring the leaves down but if weather remains calm and mild the leaves stay on the trees longer. At this time of year TOC Control Offices will get a daily update on the percentage of leaves that have fallen.

Again, thanks for the explanation, I can see now why the RHTT is so interesting as it’s the only non-DMU train.

Again, this makes total sense, however I would contest the point that the 73s get interest - I haven’t seen much about them in this thread.

Different trees drop at different times too, at my work the lime trees and horse chestnut are all but done, sycamore and London Plane are well on the way but beech trees still have quite a bit to go. Lots of beech in the Avon Gorge for example, 3S59 went down twice last week (Tues one not on rtt but Traksy showed it coming down).

been a bit of a loco swap round on the Yorkshire circuits, 66850 has gone to Leeds, so 66848 has paired with 849 on the Selby circuit and 66847 and 56105 are on the Sheffield circuit

yeah, as both 847 and 850 are fresh off tyre turning my best guess is they will remain on the SY circuit until the end of the season, if 56105 appears again it will be on the Selby circuit standing in for 848

One reason for few pictures may be they don't stop much and run in very poor light (given the time of year), so they are hard to photograph!

Just for 172007, a video clip of an MPV on the Merseyrail Wirral circuit - which shows the problem of trying to capture a moving train in poor light!

37116 worked 0Z37 for tyre turning yesterday. Basically all of the locos working RHTT have gone for tyre turning so far apart from 848 and 56105

I believe 56105 has departed from York on 0Z56 back to Doncaster, shame it’s gone but im glad something other than a 66 appeared on the South Yorkshire circuit this year.
