The Swiss RhB has a lot of single track sections with passing loops. Other than the red signal for the train waiting in the loop, is there any other form of protection to prevent a train entering an occupied section and meeting something coming the other way?

The standard for train protection systems for narrow-gauge railways in Switzerland is ZSI 127. This system is also used on the RhB.
