Must be years since I paid a deposit for a Revolution Trains, OO gauge class 180. The project updates page on the website isn't very helpful really.

Would I have been better sitting on my not small sum of money and waiting for production? It seems like other models have been announced since and produced already.

Anybody know if there is a problem with the model? The company themselves are certainly not bothered about updating their customers. Seem to treat them with contempt. When I asked for an update - must be over a year ago, I was directed to their website!

Just a bit of communication would be good. I was thinking about buying other models from them, but am dubious now. My money (and others' no doubt) has been sitting in their bank account, when it could have been in mine! A few months OK, years though?

I still want it, just a bit fed up!

Probably worth keeping an eye on this thread on RMWeb

If it’s something you really want, it’s always best to pre-order as some popular models don’t make standard retail. I prefer to pre-order and pay, makes it ‘cheaper’ when you get your hands on it. Makes it easier to get past the other half as well!
”how much was that?!”
”doesn‘t matter, paid for it 4 years ago!”

Thanks for the link. Crikey, well over 3 years then. That is a LONG time for a deposit with zero communication from the supplier.

I'd go and talk to them and express my disappointment when at the Milton Keynes show this weekend (if they have a stand) but feel I'd get nowhere.

Zero points for customer service so far.

I've also got 4 pre orders with revolution. No updates on their site or anywhere else. Customer service non existent. Youd think the least they could do would be to put the odd update on there. One of my preorders was allegedly in production last summer. But absolutely no update on that since.

3 years is a long time, but it isn't completely unheard of. Didn't Heljan's class 104 take a similar period to make it onto the shelves?
The lack of information is a worry though, especially as Revolution are relative newcomers with not a huge amount of reputational credit in the bank so to speak.

Almost 5 years from announcement to arrival for the 104!
KR Models are another one for lack of information. Last we heard (start of August), it was due in the UK in the middle of September. Heard nothing since.

Things do get delayed, and I daresay tweaks have to be made until they get them right. Its not the delays im so bothered about, but the lack of information. You pay your money, then hear nothing. Its not very good customer service. If other companies were doing the same models to a decent standard, I dont think I'd make another purchase from Revolution. Revolution arent on their own in this though. Now Accurascale are brilliant. Their customer service in my experience is nothing short of excellent.

I agree 100%. It is the total lack of communication that is poor. They've sat on our money for years, without so much as an update email. If you get directed to their website, it's not very helpful! At the Milton Keynes exhibition, their sales stand said that it was expected Q3 2025......

I have bought several of their items and have always found communication an issue. I pre-ordered a pack of WIA wagons but it turned out my default card was cancelled ( it had been stolen a few months beforehand). Seeing the model on general sale, I checked the website at which point the issue became clear. I paid what I thought was the outstanding balance, only for another order no. to be created.
After numerous emails the problem was clarified however, rather than offer to fulfil the order, I was advised I could purchase the set at full price ! I was also advised the company could not monitor orders (contrary to standard practice from many other model railways companies). No acknowledgement of advance orders being mutually beneficial in that companies receive 50% of the order value, even though it can take years to fulfil.
Bottom line for me - customer loyalty not valued, inflexible response to a genuine mistake, a poorly constructed order system on the website and the sense that the company is overstretching itself.

Decorated samples of the 175 and 180 were at the new version of Warley at the NEC. You can see them in Sam’s trains latest video.
