Revised SWT Timetable due to bad Weather

Cant believe that SWT are running a better train service/timetable, revised snow/ice service now has 2 trains an hour going to Bournemouth/Weymouth from Totton (Southampton) instead of the 1 an hour. So the answer is if you want a better train service you need bad weather !hock:

And Christchurch has had it's service reduced to 1 train per hour.

I think the standard NR snow plan in the area leaves the Guildford - Wokingham service to FGW. It means that the points at Aldershot South and North Jns don't have to be worked. Similarly, the FGW service then terminates at Redhill, so that less points at that junction have to be worked.

It seems like a well thought out timetable on terms of keeping a good level of service but minimising delays my one gripe with it is why did they not put it on force on Thursday? So is this a NR timetable rather than one come up with by SWT? Is it up to SWT to decide of a nd when to run it and do all the operators also have one?

NR are always responsible for the timetable, that's why the national online electronic version is NR's. I think though this is a joint plan, managed between NR and all the various TOCs in an NR area, Wessex in this case.
On the SWT site there was a reference to them running 'snow service table 6' so I guess there may be a range of plan, clearly with a network covering as far as Exeter there's a possibilty of totally different conditions at the extremities. There are similar sets of alternate timetables for engineering work etc, and spare paths in certain routes for long distance diversions - so that they can run the odd Waterloo to Weymouth via Havant for instance, there's space for it in the normal timetable...

The suburban branches that are cut all seem, AFAICT, to reduce the junction operation as mentioned earlier.

Maybe the weather forecast for Thursday didn't predict the conditions too well - you can imagine the grief they'd get if they closed routes too early?

It would've been up to SWT to decise whether they use their snow plan on Thursday, not Network Rail.

I don't think I actually suggested that NR alone made the decision.

But I strongly suspect the decision gets made in the Wessex 'Integrated' Control Centre in practice, doesn't it?
