I use the Settle Carlisle a bit
Why does it have a 60 restriction. Its laid out for high speeds. Would it do any harm to the modern track if the speed was 70, even if just for DMUs. One suspects the restriction was made when it was Cl47 and Mk 1's and jointed track on wood sleepers, and no-one has thought again.
and also I'd make some of the stations request stops. Do stops like Garsdale and Ribblehead really generate custom for every train?
I am sure there are others where a bit more speed would benefit passengers.
and also look at turnouts. When they come for renewal, look to see if they can be improved.
