Return within one month ticket

Hi

Probably a daft question, I bought a ticket for two adults Bolton to Lancaster, leaving this Saturday, and planning to return Sunday. The ticket allows return travel with a month.

My plans have changed now, and it will be one adult leaving and returning Saturday, will the ticket still be valid?

If it is an Anytime Return, Off-Peak Return or Super Off-Peak Return then what you proposed will be fine, you can return on the same day, just you will have obviously paid more for that Priviledge than by using a day return ticket.

The only instance this would not be valid in is if the return ticket was an Advance ticket, this doesn't seem to be the case though as you mentioned the ticket allowing return travel within a month.

The return portion of an Off Peak Return (SVR) with a start date of 17 August 2013 is valid until 16 September 2013 (or, to be precise, up to 0429 on 17 September 2013!).

There is no requirement for an overnight stay.

Cheers. I haven't collected the ticket, but the email confirmation states that the return date is the sunday, although I suppose that doesn't matter as it is an open return for a month anyway. There were no seat reservations on the return leg either

Although it's not an Open Return (SOR) as in the former ticket type (now called Anytime Return), in this case, the return portions of the SOR and the SVR have identical validity, as it's valid by any train within one month (restriction code 8A).

It wouldn't be if only for two adults. Perhaps though the mention of the singular ‘ticket’ means it's one ticket printed with ‘TWO’ under ‘ADULT’ which is causing the confusion? (Not something I've ever seen myself but I assume the facility exists…)

Was the ticket a Groupsave?

(1) You can't get GroupSave for two adults and (2) I don't think Northern accepts GroupSave.
