Yesterday [09/02/2008] marked my first airsoft match for over 3 and a half years when I revisited the site where I had my first ever organised airsoft skirmish, Ambush Wargames Eversley. I went with my friends Charlie and Ian from college.
Today was a bit different from the rest as it was a "Build Day". This meant that the participants were sent out in teams to build fortifications at locations throughout the site. As a reward for the hard work we had lunch and 4 skirmishes for free including the rental of an AEG (automatic electric gun) and face protection.
Firstly we all chipped in to move half of the wood stored at the safe zone to Area 52, an old nissen hut situated in a small valley with trenches and treelines dotted around it. We then shifted our attentions to Poontang Palace where we moved several groups of wood and empty sandbags to be filled.
Myself, Ian and Charlie all took turns in digging the mud/sand and holding the bags open, in the end we managed to fill 25 sandbags, which is not bad for an hour and a halfs work with small chat breaks thrown in
After we had enough sandbags myself and Charlie situated them around the Palace, seen below in the T trench:
Here Charlie demonstrates the bunker/pillbox style fortifications we made:
1pm came and we all moved back to the safe zone to prepare for the skirmishes.
As both of my airsoft M4A1 carbines are currently OOU pending repairs or replacement parts, I used a rental G36C, which was the exact model I want to purchase for when I have sorted my membership card. Ian used a rental AK47 nicknamed "El Douche" while Charlie had brought along his M733 Commando.
Games 1 and 2 were held at Area 52. For teams we were numbered 1-24 (24 being the number of players), with the odd numbers going against the evens. I was in the odd team being allocated number 9.
Game 1: the even team were defending Area 52 while we the Odds attacked. I didn't see much action in this game as I was trying to figure out how to get to the hut, and getting lost in the process. Fortunatly I wasn't shot at all but then again didn't get any kills! In the end Odds won with the most remaining players in the battlefield.
Game 2: The teams switched positions with Odds defending and Evens attacking. I saw alot more action in this game than the previous, managing 3 kills including Charlie who was in the Even team! I was also only "killed" once by an Even toting a modified M14 scout rifle, by being hit in the leg 3 times. Myself and Ian were on the same team for this game and we managed to set up an ambush position, successfully taking out 2 enemy teammembers each. For about 5 minutes myself and a fellow Odd were pinned inside the nissen hut on our own, but managing to stave off the attack long enough for reinforcements. Once I was hit out I returned to the Dead Zone and waited the last 2 minutes for the match to end before returning to the Safe Zone for lunch.
Games 3 and 4 were held at Location 18, situated in a largeish valley with "The Tower" at the bottom of the valley and various bracken/defence positions all the way up the south hill. For these matches the everyone was renumbered and switched round, myself being allocated number 16 and joining the Evens.
Game 3: Evens were the defending team for this game with myself, Charlie and 2 others setting up inside The Tower before the start of the game. The first 5 minutes were very quiet with various pot shots and shuffling about going on with people getting into position. I managed to last 8 minutes before being hit in the top of the head by a lucky hot through a gap in the wood. How that happened I don't know. I returned to the Dead Zone situated at the top of the valley and awaited the next game.
Game 4: Odds were sent to defend The Tower for this game. Myself and Charlie practiced our "leapfrog" tactics by switching positions one after the other, with one covering and one pegging it to the next piece of cover Eventually I almost ended up being shot by friendly fire diving into a ditch before I shouted "Even!" to let them know I wasn't the aggressor. After a little shuffling around I ended up pinned behind a tree with the ditch directly behind me. After a while there was only me and two others behind me in the bracken bushes left, exchanging fire in-between being pinned by continuous fire from Ian and the others. Eventually I was snuck upon by an enemy and capped in the chest, forcing my withdrawal from the game and return to the Safe Zone for a de-brief.
Overall a good day was had by all with intense skirmishes and alot of fun and banter between teams. Our team battlecries were Quagmire's "GiggityGoo" and "Die Infidels!" adding to the overall hilarity of Borat quotes during the defence of The Tower.
Here is two photos of Myself with the G36C and Charlie in his combats and M733 Commando:
Will definatly be returning to Eversley in the future, as well Formbury and Dragon Valley sites in the future
