No because the 'train' would be compliant with the converted 156 coach, every coach does not have to be compliant but one (or 2) coaches need to be compliant on each train.

I thought things like PIS and door controls need to be done in every carriage.

yes fine, all coaches must be made compliant, the level of compliance will vary for each coach in a train, one coach will have to be fully accessible/DDA compliant/ PRM-TSI etc etc whatever its called this week, and the others will have to be tarted up a bit.

What I read the question as is-

Will the 153 have to be made fully compliant if it is in the middle of 2 class 156 carriages, the answer to that is no, but it will need asll the fluffy stuff adding!

Every coach needs to be compliant but somethings are done on a length basis not every carriage, for example disabled toilets are mandated a minimum then progressivley more once certain lengths of train are reached, wheelchair spaces also, toilets tend to be the most expensive single item conversion.

The 'Fluffy' stuff is the majority of alterations and does have to be in every carriage, thats PIS, help buttons, grab handles, certain colour schemes for the visually impaired, minimum corridor widths between seats, minimum seat heights, etc...
