Retired 67s?

Skips 002, 010 and 021; what's happened to them?

I know 021 has just been moved to Crewe IEMD after it died at Stonehaven some time ago, 010 is still there I think from how long ago, but what happened to 002? Was it returned to traffic after it's face-off with the coal wagon at Bristol?

Will 021 and 010 be left to rot and become the first retired skips?

I doubt it! 67008 & 67010 spent a long time parked up at Toton out of traffic and both were eventually brought back, although as stated 010 is out of traffic again. I believe 67010 has an engine vibration that needs to be fixed before it will be let out again.

Part of the problem is that there is not a significant requirement for 67s so DB can afford to have some stored out of service. I believe it is 3 for sleepers, 1 for the Fife circle, 4 for Chiltern, 4/5 EC thunderbirds and a number for charter & Royal trains as required. Occasionally they find use on freight as well.

Although 021 is a more spectacular failure than the others, and by all accounts requires a staggering amount of work to rectify.

I agree with your point though of DBS not needing to enter it back into traffic any time soon. Although wasn't 021 also one of the RETB fitted locos?

Nope, the only 67s in the WABK pool are 67004, 67007, 67009, 67011 and 67030

001 and 029 are also likely to drop into the WAWN pool periodically, as cover, being the only other ones with the required fire mods to operate unmanned in propelling mode.

The Chiltern requirement for 67s is likeley to increase, especially after the Oxford phase of Evergreen 3 is complete, so I think we will see some of the stored fleet given the fire system mods and added to the WAWN pool in the next couple of years.
