Restriction Code FB (East Croydon - Brighton)

Hi everyone,

I'm travelling from East Croydon to Brighton and hold a Super Off Peak Day return.

I've just had a look and the tickets say they are valid on Thameslink trains only.

I looked at the restrictions (FB) beforehand and there was no mention of this.

Can these tickets not be used on Southern? Unfortunately as it's an day return I just chose any trains so the itinerary it created was for Thameslink.

Separate the restriction code (relevant to time of travel) from the routing (either geographical or TOC) restriction. Both restrict your ticket in separate ways.

The ticket may be routed “any permitted” but if it’s additionally restricted to Thameslink only (https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail...pert=on&flow=2&multi=1&fare=9&rte=789&tkt=CBA) then you have to comply with this also.
There are more expensive tickets which are not restricted to an operator such as https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail?orig=ECR&dest=BTN&expert=on&flow=0&multi=0&fare=17&tkt=CDR
You pays your money and you makes your choice.

As I understand it, the restriction code gives the times the ticket can be used, it is the routeing that restricts you to Thameslink Only.

I'm only aware of one instance of someone being issued a Penalty Fare in recent years, and it was successfully appealed:
