Rupert Lowe criticised the ban of handguns in the UK, saying it was "because there was a murder in Dunblane".

The leader of Restore Britain has been urged to apologise after describing the Dunblane school shooting as "one murder".

Rupert Lowe was criticising the UK's ban on handguns during an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast. He said the ban came after "there was a murder in Dunblane".

Host Rogan clarified with Lowe that the ban was due to "one murder" and the Restore UK leader repeated that was the case.

Sixteen children and their teacher were killed in the 1996 mass shooting at Dunblane Primary School, one of the worst gun atrocities to happen in the UK.

Lowe, the MP for Great Yarmouth, said his father's pistols had been taken away after the shooting, and that society in the UK needed "radical change" and to "release the individual".

A spokesperson for Restore Britain said: "Rupert was clearly referring to one incident."

Kenny Ross, whose daughter Joanna was one of the pupils killed, told BBC Scotland News that he was not surprised at the "ignorance of some people" around the shooting.

He said: "They don't realise how devastating it was. But now we have a safer society because there is no longer private gun ownership.

"Thirty years have passed and people forget what we had to go through.

"I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that. It's people like him that are very ignorant and selfish."

Conservative MSP Stephen Kerr said Lowe's comments were "astonishingly insensitive and profoundly disrespectful to the victims of Dunblane".

He said: "To describe Dunblane as 'one murder' is not simply inaccurate – it diminishes one of the darkest days in Scotland's modern history.

"There is no excuse for reducing the murder of 16 children and their teacher to 'one murder'.

His comments on Dunblane are abhorrent. To bring Dunblane into a discussion about handguns without fully accepting the utterly tragic circumstances of that day is just unforgivable. Maybe now some of the Reform voters who see Restore as a natural progression will see the Party and their leader for what they are.
Lowe is a nasty piece of work.

As a Scot born into a Scotland that was still reeling from Dunblane (less then a month later in early April 1996) and who later learned of the abject horror of what happened there that day and the events that led to it, I have to say that if I was within earshot and he said that about one of the darkest days in modern Scottish history, I'd have to be physically restrained, such would be my all-consuming fury.

That Mouth of Sauron cosplayer spokesperson can claim he was taken out of context or was misquoted all they damn well like, but the implications were clear as day to anyone paying attention.

But I shouldn't expect anything else from Lowe. If nothing else results from this, it merely highlights yet again that he's nothing more than a spiteful, racist, cretinous waste of oxygen* who needs to be drop-kicked into the dustbin of history.

*: I'm really restraining myself when I label him as such, if I posted what I really think of him with no filter, I'd be perma-banned

I really do not have much time for Rupert Lowe as is, but to comment on Dunblane like that is truly despicable. He deserves wide condemnation from all sides for those comments as it was a truly horrible massacre that can not be talked about and quite rightly so with such insensitivity.

To me, Lowe is pardon the pun, but the lowest of the low, His views are about as bad as it's possible to get, but still remain on the right side of the law,

He is a throwback to the Mosley era, and the black shirts, and the British league of Fascists, and if he had the chance, where would he stop ? Remigration? what does that really mean? anyone not white? even if they are 3rd generation, born here?
