Reston Station CrossCountry

Just watched Geoff Marshalls video on the new Reston station and at the end he departs on a CrossCountry. Looking at the timetable there are no XC stopping services there. Was this an additional stop for the purpose of the video? Or are XC going to serve Reston in the future?

They stopped as he said in the video because no TPE services were running that day so XC made an additional stop to serve Reston while TPE werent running.

Thy discussed this in the video. The XC stop was not scheduled, but added because all the scheduled stopping services were cancelled.

Not sure about 'always', but recently XC have had special stop orders(SSO) for Reston on a few occasions.

Not exactly going to increase usage figures if its basically reliant on Special Stop Orders, the service is already some what infrequent as it is for a new station.

Just been to Reston this afternoon. Got the 14.08 train from Edinburgh which got to Reston at 14.45. Nobody else got off the same train and there were nine cars in the car park.

I got the 16.42 back by which time there were five cars still parked in the station with one leaving. Three other people got on the same train, two of whom who had just been dropped off.

I don't actually think the problem with Reston is necessarily even the level of service, more very poor public transport from Coldingham/Eyemouth in particular; no buses back to Reston after 3PM as well as poor promotion of the station (and no A1 signage). A lot of the Cross Country pass around the same times as the TPE services anyway.

I think the problem is also with the fares TBH. £21.10 for an off peak return still seems relatively expensive considering ample capacity on certain tranpennine trains such as my outbound journey today even if a lot of people got on in Dunbar on the way back.

I have heard of it but apparently you have to book seven days in advance. I just wanted to go there and see how far I could walk (towards Eyemouth) before returning to the Station. I walked most of the way to Coldingham and then returned to Reston.

Not what the webpage says, even by phone call instead of through the app - it is on demand - ie you request a pick-up when you want. That's the whole point, not having to rely on infrequent bus schedules.
