Rest working

Hi
I'm relatively new.
I just wondered.....can I be rostered 11 days on in a row if I choose to do overtime or do I need a rest day in-between.
Also how many hours rest do I need between shifts ie could I do a back shift finishing at 2000hours onto an early starting at 0530?

If you are on ‘domestic’ work - which covers most local bus services, yes and yes.

This would fall under working time regulations which states you must have at least 11 hours between shifts, this is 11 hours rest in any 24 hour period so you can essentially work max 13 hours a day

You also require at least 24 consecutive hours rest in any 7 day period or 48 consecutive hours rest in a 14 day period

Which you can opt out of. Most bus companies "present the option" of opting out of the Working Time Directive (or whatever its name is) upon commencing employment.

GB domestic driving hours requires a 24 hour rest period every 14 days. So you can theoretically work every day if you wanted to. Not saying it’s the right thing to do but can be done.

You can opt out of the maximum 48 hour weekly working limit, although that can still be dicey as over an average 17 week period you cannot work more than 48 hours per week averaged, even if you’ve opted out
