Update:

I've received this letter which unless I'm really mistaken is incredibly good news and this is hopefully the end of it.

Thank you to everyone that supported and I really appreciated it so much. I was expected multiple letter and further correspondence and I'm so happy that it's been put behind me quite so swiftly.

One quick question, I don't understand one bit of the letter.

I've paid the admin charge now, would I still need to send a letter, or is this all sorted?
Happy for you!

Good result (minus the money gone from your account )

I think TIL are getting a bit easier to deal with from a few cases posted here recently.

No, there's no need to do anything more.

Good news indeed. At the risk of stating the obvious, the OP needs to ensure they don't come to the TOC's attention again. I suspect they'd be less lenient for any second incident. Especially don't board a train ticketless (where station facilities are available), expecting to buy one en route. Being in a rush and/or poor connectivity seem to be the root cause of many of the cases appearing here.

Absolutely, I appreciate that. I had no idea it was an issue before to be honest, so I'll be buying tickets well on advance

Just keep a clear record of the payment you make / hold on to receipt etc if anything did crop up claiming payment not received in future etc. But I'm sure you will do this.
