Reserving extra seats

Hence the dolls suggestion. Nothing in the NRCoT suggests a 'person' has to be a human. Not even anything resembling a 'person' - guards reserve the right to charge a ticket 'to' luggage occupying seats.

The NRCoT uses the english language to describe and define its rules so it doesn't need to make any suggestion about the meanin of the word 'person'. The OED (and all other English language dictionaries that I can find) make it quite clear that a person is a human being regarded as an individual.
You haven't made it clear in your post that you are joking about a doll being a person, (e.g. an emoticon or <comment>) so I can only assume that you don't know the meaning of the word 'person'.

You can buy as many tickets and reserve as many seats as you like.

However, a seat with nobody sitting in it is available for use, and the unused ticket is (if it's an Advance) forfeit, or (if it's a walk-up) refundable minus £10.

This, fairly tenuously, would confirm that:

Some types of Ticket (for instance advance Tickets) require you to make a
reservation when buying your Ticket. For other Tickets you can request a
reservation either when buying a Ticket, or before the departure of your train on presentation of a valid Ticket, at most staffed stations. You are allowed a maximum of one seat reservation per person for each train that forms part of your journey.

Note "per person", not "per ticket".

Thank you, I believe this is what I am looking for. I guess the TM could use his discretion but faced with an entirely full train may have to change his mind.

I guess it's a fine line between wasting money buying the extra tickets versus the amount of times it does actually work with a combination of two in a four putting people off naturally and some people seeing the four tickets and accepting the rationale.

As I said before it's good for the "bluffer" to be fully aware that they are in fact bluffer and not covered by the weight of the terms and conditions. Failure to understand this position could result in a PR incident
