Reserves

Hi all..

I tried to do a quick search but couldn't find out the information, so hoping someone has some knowledge on here as the hr number appears to be down.

I have recently been invited to a dmi for the job that I applied for, but my question is I was planning to join the RAF reserves as in my current job I am easily able to do so. If I was to go to try to work for GWR would this hinder me with regards to my training and ability to be able to learn to do the job itself? I'm sure as with most companies they would be accommodating too it, but better to be safe than sorry right?

Not sure about GWR, but with SWR (also under the First Group banner) I enquired about this in the DMI, and essentially they said its not unheard of for people to do it, however during the training period you definitely wouldnt be able too. I suppose one of the best things about working on the railway is that you get ample free time to do things such as join the reserves!

Depends on your role at the TOC and your reserve forces commitment - if you working a changing shift pattern it is not easy to attend a weekly fixed evening for any hobby
