Reserved seats

I'm trying to reserve seats on the following trains. Reservations seem to be possible but none available. Is it because the trains are full? Can someone with inside knowledge help please?

02/07/2022 Middlesbrough - Whitby 10.19
03/07/2022 Whitby - Middlesbrough 12.49
03/07/2022 Middlesbrough - York 15.18

Seat reservations aren't available between Middlesbrough and Whitby as Northern don't offer them. I'll let someone else investigate the York legs.

The 1019 has a high chance of being full and standing on a sunny day, a good chance of being busy on other days. The 1249 will probably be relatively quiet as most people wouldn't come back until later in the day. I'd join the 1019 ASAP to ensure a seat.

2nd July and 3rd July are a Saturday and Sunday in 2022.

Last Saturday the 1019 Middlesbrough->Whitby service was formed of a two car Class 156 train combined with a two car Class 158. Total = four carriages.

The 1249 return from Whitby last Sunday was just a two car Class 156.

It's one that Northern prioritise strengthening for (in this part of the world 2-car trains are the norm, 4-car is very unusual and normal means a special event is on or Northern need to move a unit around) but even then 4-cars can be only just enough capacity. It's a popular service. When the weather is nice.
