Can someone help me clarify what to do in this situation?

- I purchased a XC only ticket between Glasgow Central and Haymarket for today.
- I purchased this ticket through the Scotrail website
- I did not request a reservation at the time but would now like to reserve a seat on the 1900 service.
- XC customer services told me that I had to speak to Scotrail
- Scotrail told me that no reservations on this route...ridiculous becuse on XC trains you can reserve on this route between these two destinations, and it is possible to reserve a seat on the Scotrail website for new bookings but not to amend existing ones.

So in my situation, should I still be available to get a reservation for this service? If so can I contact someone before I travel or would it best just to board on an unreserved carriage? This is a Bank Holiday to be fair.

XC Twitter should be able to reserve you a seat within a matter of seconds; their online customer service is generally excellent.

I tried the text to reserve service and it never worked for this particular service
I normally send them a tweet with my journey details and they’ve always sorted it promptly.

The text service can be unreliable.

Well they told me there on Twitter they "can't do in day" and "it's likely seat reservations are no longer available"

Just tried it and got a "There is no seat availability for your requested journey" response for both Standard and First Class.

How did you put in the departure time? If you enter say 12:55 it will send the "no reservation" message, you have to enter it as 1255, I've been caught out a couple of times in the past.

Entered it as 1900 per the instructions on the XC site.

I travelled on this service and it was unusually quiet anyway, just sat in the unreserved coach
