A few quick questions:

I am about to undertake my first Rover (a FOSS 3 in 7) and read on the NRE site reservations were recommended for some of the busier and longer services. How does one go about this? By simply asking for them when I pick up my rover - similarly are there any hard and fast rules about services / TOCs that don't do reservations (I'll be using FGW, SWT and XC (although will probably try a ten minute reservation for XC)).

Second question isn't really to do with reservations, but if the whole journey goes a bit tits up and I miss a connecting train due to delays etc. where do I stand with the TOC getting me back to where I want to end my journey for the evening? Seen as it isn't an A to B ticket do they have any responsibility to get me back to A, or if I get stuck somewhere in the area is it tough and me finding me own way back? How, similarly, do I get on if there are delays- if above delay repay times can I claim or is it tough as I'm on a flexible ticket.

Many thanks.

You can reserve seats on a rover ticket - just present the rover ticket to the booking office clerk and they'll be able to help. As long as you're choosing services valid for the rover you hold, you shouldn't have a problem.

If you got stranded, I'm sure that common sense would prevail and staff would get you to your intended destination by whatever means necessary.

Regarding compensation, TOC's are not obliged to pay out with Rover tickets, although many do use their discretion and pay out. There seems to be absolutely no consistency as to how TOC's work of the amount of compensation for Rover's, though.

Thanks. I'm making a trip next week before the rover at the end of August, so will get it all sorted out then. Do SWT take reservations on their Weymouth - London Waterloo services?

Do be aware that a few TOCs (I think FGW is one) charge for seat reservations when not issued at the same time as a ticket.

That would explain why an FGW office was reluctant to issue my requested reservations with my rover however the rover wasn't valid on FGW and none of the TOCs I reserved charge for rovers - he wasn't pleased!

Do East Coast still do this?

No, AFAIAA they no longer charge for reservations.
