I was surprised to find my reservations for today for Trainsplit were for Virgin Trains East Coast. That could cause confusion for some.

Not just Trainsplit. I purchased some tickets on the LNER website last week which were printed by a LNER TVM as 'Virgin Trains East Coast & connections'

That's down to the TVM. We feed a 5 digit route code to the TOD record and the TVM is supposed to decode that into the correct string from the IPTIS data feed.

I have some in front of me that were posted out by the LNER fulfillment centre for train services operated next month by 'London South Eastern Railway'.

That’s a different problem. They are using the wrong field from the data, rather than the right field but out of date data. If you see what I mean!

Really? Where was the TVM?

Just had a look at the ticket. It was collected from one of the GTR TVMs at Stevenage (the LNER one (which is my 'go-to' TVM for collections) was out of order).

The ticket was 'LNER & connections' but the seat reservation booked me a seat on the '11:47 Virgin Trains EC'

Looks like a reference data error from our friends in Germany. Doesn't matter where they are booked it's how the TVM handles the route code.

It's not just paper tickets that are affected. Back in July, I bought a 'TPE & Connections' E-ticket from TPE with the Newcastle-York leg on an LNER service. And this is how it showed in the app:

(I tweeted a copy of the image to TPE to let them know.)

Picture shows detail from a TPE E-ticket and shows the operator for the journey as Virgin Trains East Coast.
