Hi all,
Pondering this dilemma at present - I have an Advance ticket from Crawley to Birmingham International, with reservations on the VT section (of course) plus a reservation for a train from Three Bridges to Victoria). It's a very early morning train (I'm connecting into the 07:43 EUS-BHI).
I am considering purchasing a first class weekend upgrade for the Virgin section, as I will be working a long day and want a quiet and comfortable ride up, however it only seems worth it if I can use the first class lounge at Euston and take an earlier train from Crawley to do so.
So my question is thus: Given I (annoyingly) have a reservation for a connecting train, is there anything stopping me from taking a non-reservable alternative connection earlier in the morning in order to allow me to use the facilities at Euston prior to departure. This is normally what I try and do as I don't like the short connections you're always given with Advance tickets, but I wasn't expecting a reservation this time

Alternatively, given that there are non-reservable options available, is it even possible to cancel the reservation of a connecting train? That would solve a lot of problems!
Similarly, can you buy a first upgrade before you get on the train, will that let me use the lounge at Euston, and will there be the usual complimentaries on the train at that time of the morning?
