Reservations coach C

It appears that every time I book standard advance tickets on the Norwich-Liverpool Street route, I am given a seat in Coach C. Yet, I often see reservations in some of the other standard class coaches on the route. Is it just a default setting on the reservation system, or is there a way to reserve seats in a different coach (excluding the quiet coach, because that can be reserved on request, and because I don't like travelling in said coach )?

Just something I'm curious about.

Reservations can be dependent upon

• The origin and destination on the ticket
• The origin and destination for this leg
• The type of ticket held

Different TOCs have different policies, but often put high value tickets in different carriages to low value ones, and separate long and short distance journeys or legs.

I always tend to get coach C as well, I can only imagine coach C is the first to get filled up by reservations.

Are you aware of which TOCs do this? I've done a few tests, booking the cheapest advance, followed by an SOS, and each time both seats were in the same carriage.

When I travel to Reading in a reserved seat, the train stops near the exit steps. Is this coincidence or deliberate? Does this help explain which carriage you get allocated?
