Hi guys I'm a regular train user of the trains in the UK and I'm wondering if theres anywhere I can find data on statistics of activities from the train companies, i.e how many people have been issued fines for forgotten railcards and lost tickets etc. Maybe I would have to contact them directly as they probably dont release the data.

I don't think any are released into the public domain.
If you do contact them, be clear if to you're asking about Penalty Fares which are issued on the spot or fines which are issued by a court (you could try asking how many people have paid the company's costs to avoid court too but I'd expect them to be really cagey about that).
It's unlikely they'll have a break down of how many are for "lost tickets".

I'm sure TOCs will publish figures from time to time, usually to put on posters as a deterrent. As such, you might be able to get data from them if you ask.
But as for a detailed breakdown, I'm not so sure.
I would like to know how many fewer PFs are issued by certain TOCs, and how many more out of court settlements there are as a result. My feeling is that some TOCs are actively avoiding penalty fares AND court, having found a nice sweet spot in between.

Are TOCs subject to FOI requests?
Usually not, however East Coast is run by DOR and is nationalised, so they are the exception

The information required may be exempt however in the name of possible undermining of law enforcement. I am not entirely sure.
Someone once asked EC for the number of prosecutions under Byelaw 14 that they had made and EC provided the figures. So it's possible they'll provide figures around Byelaw 18 and RoRA.
You could also consider making an FoI request to the Courts & Tribunals service for statistics.

Sometimes, I suspect that the most useful information can be more easily obtained by friendly conversations with a few people in the business than the cold precision of a FOI request.
Depending on where you are, you may be near a Magistrates Court that hears a lot of rail fare prosecutions, in which case you might appreciate a chat with one of the Clerks or Magistrates. I'd expect them to be approachable and pleased to find someone interested in their work.
