Hi, I work for a research and development company which specializes in new sustainable energy devices, we mostly deal with offshore renewable technology, although we also carry out research on others, e.g. hydrogen fuel-cells.
To cut a long story short, over the last two years we have designed a high speed, fast acelleration, suburban/rural, hydrogen powered, train in our spare time. It has a very low centre of gravity and can run on existing tracks. My question is:-
Are there any train manufacturers in the UK who can produce a prototype if given the finance? We appreciate that hydrogen power has other issues so this question is limited to finding a suitable manufacturer.

All comments welcomed, thanks... Dave

You should get in contact with CSRE. CSRE's David Shipley is on the forum under the name Kingfisher(some numbers go here). Sorry! Can't remember his exact username.

cool, just looked up CSRE on net -could be a good contact, although it does look like production is in China.

Preferably the first prototype should be made in UK so we can quickly make changes in the design to optimise assembly etc. and we need a manufacturers' expertise for 3rd party verification of the design.

A UK manufacturer must exist somewhere??

Pretty sure the only manufacturer of main-line passenger rolling stock manufacturing in the UK currently is Bombardier (ex-ex-ex-BREL*). I think they may be your only option if UK is crucial.

*Dear Pedants. I may well have got the number of ex-s wrong.

Bombardier or Parry People Movers who make single railcars based on their flywheel energy storage technology are only ones making new heavy rail rolling stock in the UK.

Thanks for all your help! Bombardier was the name I was trying to think of. Our hydrogen train is at least 4 to 5 years off production, it is worth pursuing though as it broadly fits in with the rest of the projects we are carrying out. cheers HST-Dave
