Request for information MetCam LUL stock movement

Hi folks

This afternoon, I was driving along the South Circular near Woolwich (A205 in London for those who don't know the area) and spotted a MetCam Circle Line "C" stock driving coach on a low loader. Car Number 5720.

Can anyone tell me where it was going please?

No.

The trains are not 'scrapped' at Northwood - most of the C stock were sent there (by rail) to be taken to Rotherham for scrapping at Booth's.

The last of these manoeuvres happened in June with a train from Acton Works.

5720 was withdrawn to Acton Works by rail in June and was detached from a six-car unit when that went for scrap (via Northwood). It will have been taken by road from there and is destined for further, private use.

The exact use eludes me at the moment although someone will know, I'm sure.

Ah C**p - right you are. That'll teach me not to proof-read my own comments (or details). Northwood should have read Rotherham if it were any other car, but 5720 is going to join 5705 in becoming a learning environment type thing ( I can't remember where though). Basically engineering students get to muck around on it to learn about the electrical and pneumatical systems involved, as well as a chance to modify bits of it.

I'm sure 5720 was being donated to a school or college?

Edit - yes, this post by Dstock7080 seems to suggest so too.

6720-5720 are still in Acton Works, 6720 will be scrapped, 5720 will be donated to a school.

5578- 5721-6721 6531-5531 are still at the LTM compound at Acton. 5721 is to be kept for the LTM the others going for scrap.

5701 still exists at Royal Greenwich University Technical College, so 3 C77s will survive.
