Request For Help Planning My Journeys for Wednesday

Hi All

I’m registered severely visually impaired and live in the South West of the country but on Wednesday will be making some journeys in London.

Journey 1 - Wembley Central station to Kilburn High Road station

Journey 2 - Kilburn High Road station to Paddington station (I think I’ll need to change at Queens Park)

I’ve received conflicting information today from different departments within TfL about whether Kilburn High Road station is staffed. Can anyone clear this up?

Does anyone know whether I will be ok getting staff support at the other stations? Paddington I obviously assume so and Wembley Central has always been staffed when I’ve been there previously so it’s just Kilburn High Road and Queen’s Park I’m concerned about.

Kilburn High Road is fully staffed from first train to last train. It is only the ticket office that has very limited hours. But there is still a member of staff at the station even when the ticket office is closed. Sometimes during quieter times they like hiding away in their office but there will be someone there at all times.

Queens Park is also fully staffed with multiple staff on duty. That is a much larger station so staff are easier to find. When you change trains when going from Kilburn High Road to Paddington you will need to cross over the footbridge to get between the platforms.

You may find Kilburn Park an easier station to use. For your first journey you can do either Wembley Central to Kilburn High Road (London Overground) or Wembley Central to Kilburn Park (London Underground) directly. But for your journey to Paddington you can take a direct train from Kilburn Park to Paddington which avoids the Queens Park change. The two stations are a three minute walk from each other and Kilburn Park is fully staffed. So it will probably make it a lot easier for you to just use Kilburn Park and take a direct train.

Can you not go direct from Wembley Central to Paddington, or do you need to stop at or near Kilburn High Road?

If you need to stop in Kilburn I would definitely suggest (from my time long ago commuting in London) going on afterwards from Kilburn Park and direct to Paddington.

@Gloster i can’t go direct from Wembley Central to Paddington as I need to spend a few hours in the Kilburn High Road area.

My concern about using Kilburn Park station for the journey to Paddington would be finding the station. I know that it has been said in the thread that Kilburn High Road station and Kilburn Park station are only three minutes walk apart but due to my visual impairment I struggle to see and understand maps so I’m not sure I would be able to work out where to go.

Can anyone provide directions for walking from Kilburn High Road station to Kilburn Park station please?

I don't know how you'd feel about using a bus, but there's a direct one between Kilburn High Road and Paddington. Route 16. The bus stop is on the same side of the road as Kilburn High Road station, and it terminates at Paddington.

For the walk from Kilburn High Road to Kilburn Park, you need to cross the road (there's a pedestrian crossing right outside Kilburn High Road station), and then turn left. Walking down the road, you need the second right which is Cambridge Avenue (you should come to this about 10 seconds after crossing the road). About a minute down Cambridge Avenue is Kilburn Park station, on the right, you should be on the correct side of the road for it. Hope this is of some help.

Having looked at Streetview as Kilburn is not an area I was ever familiar with it doesn’t look too complicated to get from Kilburn High Road to Kilburn Park.

It is cross the road outside High Road station where there should be a crossing.
Turn left and go about fifty yards crossing one side road.
Then veer half-right into Cambridge Avenue and follow down the right-hand side for a couple of hundred yards until the line of buildings on your right ends (there is one gap early on) and Park is a reddish building on your right on the other side of a side street.

I don’t know how easy it is for you to follow these instructions, but it might be worth asking for advice at wherever you are visiting in Kilburn before you leave as to how far it is from there.
