Reported for prosecution, but no letter yet recieved

Hey everyone,

I bought a ticket from Enfield Lock station on the 20th of December including the 21st too on the ticket ( double tickets ) from Shenfield to Chelmsford as it was cheaper and used my young persons card to reduce the price because I didn't have enough money on me and I got off at Stratford.

Now I know that isn't an excuse for The train company however the revenue officer who stopped me on the 21st got all my details and since then for nearly 2 months now no letter has been sent to me despite the fact of calling them up and talking about it. they said no track and they don't have my details when they were given by the revenue inspector.

I worry a lot and just want to know about if i will be fined or imprisoned for such a case. I just worry to the extent of imprisonment for life. Would appreciate quick replies to this.

I find it hard to understand this, but I guess you are saying you had a ticket for the start of your journey (Enfield Lock to somewhere), the end of your journey (Shenfield to Chelmsford) but no ticket in between, so when inspected at Stratford you had no valid ticket to show?

I worry a lot and just want to know about if i will be fined or imprisoned for such a case..

If they prosecute you (they have another 4 1/2 months to do so), and you're found (or plead) guilty, it would be a fine, not prison. See the legal section of our Fares Guide for more information. The legislation they'd likely use is RoRA Section 5.

It's not uncommon for these letters to take more than 2 months to arrive. You've only been waiting 7 weeks, and that time includes Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. I think you need to give it until the end of this month at least.

Section 5 of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889 almost certainly.

There will be a fine on conviction, plus a criminal record.

Wait a while longer. They may still lodge a case with the court, or that they already have, but the court papers are taking time to be processed or a date arranged.

If you have never been to court before for anything else, I'm guessing it would be Magistrates court.

But can I make a suggestion please. Instead of just firing off questions, can you answer "yorkie's" and "maniacmartin's" questions and tell us exactly what tickets you had for each journey you made

You say you bought a ticket at Enfield Lock station from Shenfield to Chelmsford. What was the reason for this? Why didn't you buy a ticket from Enfield Lock to Chelmsford?

Assuming you changed at Stratford, how did you pay your way?

Do you mean previous convictions? Or just having done it many times, but not been caught?

In any case, deliberately evading the correct fare is against the Regulation of Railways Act, which as bb21 has said can result in a fine and criminal record.

If you've been done for 20 other railway fares offences, imprisonment is the most likely outcome, for up to 3 months.

You won't get another chance for a fine.

Indeed. Frankly if you are a persistent offender and have ignored all previous chances you should have the book thrown at you. Such an individual deserves zero sympathy.

This sounds an awful lot like ticket from Enfield to Stratford, no barriers there, onto a metro or Southend hoping to avoid inspectors and then a nice short ticket to open the barriers at Chelmsford.

Almost as "original" as tapping in at Liverpool Street on Oyster and "accidently" boarding the wrong train...

You can always tell. The OP has about 5 posts, then when someone suggests that they might actually be in the wrong, we don't see them ever again.
