Report for prosecution

Hi everyone,

On 1st of May, I got caught by the guard in Vauxhall for not having a railcard. I used 16-17 saver while I didnt have one. I usually travel from Kingston to Vauxhall. I have read a lot of posts on here and realised that it gonna takes months for the letter to be sent. However, Im living in student accomodation and Im going back home (overseas) next month, then I will move out to another place next year so I’m not sure If I can receive a letter. I email to SWR presecution team 1 hour after I got the report for prosecution. Anyone who experienced this before can you please let me know how the process works and how much money I have to prepare to pay for settling out of court? And since I’m uni student, is there anyway i can ask for lower fare prices?

They will very likely check your online account and identify other occasions where you have used a railcard discount when you should not have done.

It’s then very likely that any out of court settlement they offer you will include the full cost for all those journeys, not just the one you were stopped for. They won’t reduce it for the amount you have already paid, and will add an admin fee, maybe £150.

You should have been given an MG11, with a reference number. I suggest you email them a few days before you leave the country to let them know, and ask that they contact you by email. I would not at that point make any comment about the incident itself, keep it factual as to how they can contact you.
