Dear all,

Rail UK has been compiling a ticket gallery, and we have received a fantastic response from members who have been willing to provide scans of their tickets.

It is important to us that each ticket scan is of the same high quality, and a few of the tickets submitted have been hard to crop to size without them dropping under 400px.

Update: I am looking for the following:

  • An evening return
  • A cycle reservation (passenger copy)
  • A blue oystercard
  • A promotional/commemerative oystercard
  • A railcard discounted excess fare

These are the only tickets required to be replaced before we can release the full gallery to the entire forum. (We'll still be wanting to build on that collection after we release it, though).

However, to save the cropping issue happening again, please leave plenty of space around the ticket so they can be cropped without the size dropping below 400px or the quality dropping either.

For any further information contact me via PM or email tickets@railforums.co.uk.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity once again to thank all those who have, and are planning on contributing to the gallery.

Best Wishes,

District

Remind me Sunday.... Totally forgot to do it! I am responsible for a few of those so will dig them out either tomorrow late evening or Sunday. Apologies!

I can probably help out with some of those if I get half a chance :)

Not sure if it would be part of this or the general Fares FAQ, but I can also provide an Airport change of travel time form from TPE too :)

G wiz. I totally forgot about this! Ah well. Time to break out the scanner... Although, I get the feeling that my photo editing skills are about to be sorely tested. Some of them its clear; the edges are cut off or they are blurred, but when you say that they need to have space around them... d'you mean send them as larger then 400? Or I could just crop each with a generous border and leave the dimensions unchanged from the original?

Ahah! Perhaps this will solve the problem. I've discovered the 'advanced scan' menu. Yet another reason not to use manufacture's software!

Can I ask, is the ticket gallery meant to be publicly visible? As I've previously seen a link being given to it in public, but vBulletin tells me I have no permission to view it. :?

If you send them cropped, then please make sure that they are cropped fully (i.e. little or no white space around them) and that after cropping they are 400px.
If you don't know how to do this or do not have the software, then please just send me the originals and I will do this for you!

Thanks!

Ideally they should end up looking like this:
orange_sepromotion.jpg

ie, 400 pixels wide, no gaps, not blurry, no missing parts, and rotated perfectly (decent software such as Photoshop or GIMP can do this!)

Once we have replacements for all the tickets listed above, we'll go live.

I think I might have...
  • Some older RSP/BR ticket stock lying around in my Gig/Festival scrapbook, and in other places
  • A deck sized wad of printed/used SPORTIS tickets (Though these might've faded to blank by now)
  • A couple of 16-25 Railcards (And if one of my older mates still has his, then there'll be some dot-matrix ones in there too) and
  • Possibly a couple of RSP seasons as well.
Knocking around here. Any use to the collection? :?:8-)

That said however; These might be long in coming owing to my poor organisation (I'd have to find them, and then I'd have to find the scanner! ) so I can't make any promises, especially time definite ones. Also, I'd only be happy to supply certain stock (Railcards and Seasons) after Photoshopping to remove personal information like names and photocard numbers.
Finally: As some of my thermal tickets are in for preservation (My ALR especially) and I'm not risking damage by exposing them to intense light levels, some tickets will be via 8MP AF smartphone photograph only.

Would these still be useful to the RailUK collection despite the restrictions noted? <D

Hi Death.

When the ticket gallery goes live to everyone (which will be within the next week I'd imagine), we will be opening up submissions to everyone. There is a very detailed post within the gallery explaining the requirements and suggestions for sending in tickets. This does mean scanner, and not camera though I'm afraid.

As regards to photoshopping, we do this all centrally here to ensure they are all consistent. The unedited versions will not be published and will be securely removed after they have been edited.

Replying on District's behalf, hope he doesn't mind! Would you have access to a scanner atall, such as at a local library?

Update: I am looking for the following before the gallery is released:

  • A blue oystercard

(More details in OP).

Does this simply mean a 'normal' oystercard with light blue (left and middle), a white crescent, and dark blue (right hand side)?

Is it one of this type?

District-On the intro to the gallery in the ticket gallery forum, the list of required tickets doesn't look to have been updated since 28th February. Are the ones that haven't been striked through still required, or do you only need the ones in the OP? I have sent quite a few scans through email of stuff you asked for in that list (First class upgrades, travelcards on Lu stock, tickets printed from Avantix, different types of rovers printed from machine, office and Avantix etc) but only one I sent in has been used (the counted place reservation). Sorry about the lengthy question but would be grateful if you could clear this matter up with me :) Thanks

I have a West Midlands Super Off Peak "evening" return *I think*
I also have the 2012 special Oyster Card.
I also have a LM complementary standard class day ticket if that's any good to you.

I can scan all three in tomorrow.

I've got Cycle Reservations (passenger copies) and I think a YP Railcard Discount Excess Fare. Will check and try to scan them this evening.

Edit: Sorry - Can't find the Railcard Discounted Excess anywhere - here's the Cycle Reservation though.

Has this happened now? I haven't come across anything like that on this site.

[*]A railcard discounted excess fare[/LIST]

I assume by that you mean an excess fare (eg a return or over-distance excess) that has a railcard discount as the original ticket does? If so, I might be able to help you there. Prod me in a few days (currently in Germany so can't do much from here ;))

If you meant an excess fare to remove a railcard discount, I also have one of those, but it doesn't look particularly interesting which is why I doubt you mean this ;)

I have a standard (light blue, white stripe, dark blue) oyster card. Is this the one you want? It is a little bit tatty (some feint black marks it's picked up from my wallet) but nothing a decent image package wouldn't sort. Will try and scan later.
