I was rather suprised to find this
From 18-23 April 1977, Cowbit Up goods loop was the location of an episode of BBC Television's Life at Risk series. British Railways Standard Corridor Nos. W26121 and E24620, together with Brake Standard Corridor No. E35256, were repainted on one side in the colours of a Netherlands Railways commuter train to carry out a re-enactment of the 1975 Dutch train hostage crisis. Two Class 31 diesel-electrics from March depot provided the motive power.
Is this the only example of such repainting?
(Cowbit was a station next to Spalding closed in 1961 on a line closed in 1982)
Although nothing to do with my question I found this rather amusing
The former waiting shelter on the platform opposite the main station building has been converted into a dog grooming parlour trading under the name of "Paws at the Station".

It does happen. Perhaps one of the more dramatic examples comes from the film Goldeneye where a class 20 was modified to look like an armoured train and used to ram a tank (made of wood I should add).

The Didcot Railway Centre was dressed up as a German munitions factory for the recent film "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows". I had never previously realised that the Churchward influence had spread so widely onto the continent, or that the Germans were so fond of copper capped steam locos. The various GW locos that appeared were all "disguised" using German inscribed vinyls applied over the "GREAT WESTERN" tank and tender side insignia.

Not quite on topic, but related, some years ago a preserved class 114 DMU was repainted into a fictitious livery for "Heartbeat" or "Inspector Morse" or something similar. Apparently the producers had wanted to hire a more modern unit from British Rail for a more accurate portrayal, but nothing was available.

Regarding the DMU, you're not thinking of the 108 on The Worth Valley for A Touch of Frost in a fictional 'Southlink' Livery are you?
