Looks excellent, though I'm assuming the numberplate hasn't been painted yet, and won't remain grey...

Nice to see FGW entering into the spirit of things so wholeheartedly this year, though - this, along with the Bristolian, and the amount of publicity they've put into GWR 175 (for instance, it's mentioned on the front cover of every timetable), really does show that they're making an effort.

Its funny half of me looks at that and thinks it looks really nice, the other half of me is'nt to keen, not sure about the black snow ploughs or the yellow warning panel going al the way up to the windscreens, think it would look better if it maybe only went up just above the top handrail and needs something to break that yellow panel up a bit.

I think the opposite, it should go right up and over the windows to be a full yellow front, like the locos done for the GWR150.

Yeah your right mumrar, i just went and had a look at some pics of the original GWR 47's, its not the height that mis-lead me its the width to, the yellow panel goes slightly round the sides, if it was me i would either do as you said and make the whole front yellow and the cabside windows yellows as per the original and leave the snow ploughs black, or paint a half yellow warning panel (as per on the Intercity & Virgin liveries where it slightly wraps round the sides) and paint the snow ploughs yellow.

I also notice the lineing seems to be thicker, it just touches the engine room windows on the 57 unlike the 47's.

Does anybody know what its due be named? It probably won't happen but it would be nice if they painted all 4 of the 57's like this and gave them the names of the original 47's.

All credit to FGW though. It looks nice.

It is still named Pendennis Castle apparently and is going to be rededicated at the Didcot Railway Centre tomorrow (21/06).

I admit this livery does look nice, any chance it could be use don the cardiff - taunton diagram's or something as it will be a bit difficult to get a photo of it working on the sleeper unless you are down in cornwall early in the morning.

Why would it be used on the LHCS diagrams? It is a sleeper loco. They use ATW 57s that are maintained at Canton, whereas the sleepers are maintained at OOC.

Ermmm. They DO NOT use ATW 57s maintained at Canton. They are maintained at LO. BTW, they're NOT Arriva's 57s.

Correct. Just to add to above MCR, it was really only 315 that was used, 313 & 316 supposedy were to be the dedicated machines, in the neutral blue. 316 went kapoot on its first day and was never seen in the South West since, while 313 has yet to appear.

I have to say I'm with the smaller panel plus yellow snow ploughs school of thought, but nevertheless it isn't bad at all. The lining and GWR coat of arms are an improvement on the GWR 150 repaints IMHO.

The question is, how long can FGW bear to have an item of rolling stock on their books with no "F" logo?

It's a shame we won't see FGW repaint a DMU in Chocolate & Cream colours, a bit like the 117 and 121 for the GWR 150 celebrations. They wouldn't be able to achieve an authentic look due to the requirement to have the doors a contrasting colour - all cream doors breaking up the livery would look so odd.

That maybe the case for the FGW 57s but they are rarely used on anything other than the sleeper turns. Occasionally they are used to haul failed HST sets back to depot, turning moves for power cars and once on a Paddington - Oxford service train using the sleeper stock!

Going to and from works has also seen a couple of notable workings on the WCML that I know of, such as 57602 dragging 325 units on a mail train and 57603 being used to move a refurbished buffet along with 2 EMU barrier coaches and a VT57.

Required by who? They are leased to WSMR, so they are WSMR locos. Thats how I understand it. It isn't like the Scotrail liveried 90s
