Hi All,

My physical Network Railcard runs out on 23rd October, and I would like to renew it to start again from the next day, or just a couple of days before. But there seems to be no option to choose a start day on the railcard website.. Am I missing something? And if not, is there a work around?

Thanks!

If you use the renew link then it will start from the next day after the old one ends automatically, i.e. you will have continuous coverage of validity.

If you want anything else you'll need to buy a separate one rather than renew.

It will? That's good. I wish they'd make that clear when you are ordering.. there is no sign of start date or anything..

I don't know what the system looks like, but you should double-check before making payment that it's showing the correct start/end dates to ensure it is being processed correctly as a renewal rather than a new purchase.

Here's a relevant post from an old thread:
My railcard expires in a couple of weeks time so thought I’d have a look, in view of this thread.

Clicking on ‘renew railcard’ from the railcard app takes you to the website to purchase a railcard. However, it’s not made clear that you should log-in to the website first for it to be treated as a renewal, nor does it log you in automatically. If I just followed the screens through to completion without logging in I suspect that it would have just issued a new railcard from today’s date, just like the OP.

However by logging in to the railcard website with my email address and password, it’s showing clearly as a renewal from the expiry date of the old railcard.

So I can see how the OP has been caught out by this - simply clicking on the Renew Railcard link doesn’t necessarily take the user to the renewal page - very poor user experience, in my opinion.

How did you buy your current Railcard - via the website, or at a station?

Thanks - that's helpful! I did search for other threads about this, but didn't find anything.

I see the point, but it's kind of what renewing means! :)
Perhaps yes. But it's hard to know if that's what they mean, and I didn't want to take the risk and get sent a new railcard that's start on Thursday.

Website. I see the old one in my account. It's got a clock next to where it says ordered though, which is worrying -- as it gives the impression it's ordered but hasn't arrived yet... I've had it for almost a year...

The renew link is next to it.. so I'll just follow that I guess..

Yes, that should give you a new one with the same expiry date as the old one plus one year. No start date is shown so you potentially could just carry that one, but to be safe I'd carry both* until a year before the expiry of the new one, just in case you meet a picky RPI.

* So you don't forget to swap them over on the right day.

I've just gone through almost all the process. It's concerning because at no point does it mention when the new card will be valid from (or to), and it asks me to fill in all my details again (so it feels like a new order, rather than a renewal) and then at the end it says "any incomplete Railcards in your order will be permanently deleted." and that makes me think that it will cancel my current railcard - which I still need to use!

It will not cancel your current Railcard, simply because there is no means of cancelling a physical Railcard once issued.

What it means is that if you'd started an order and not finished it, it won't be fulfilled.

It's a rubbish website, I agree.
