Can someone identify a line I travelled on about five years ago? It ran from the hills above Lake Constance down to the main line below. It was narrow gauge and most of the train was coaches but at the back were wooden open cars. At the main line the guard got down and contacted the signaller and then we crossed about six tracks before stopping in a platform at the main station. It had OHLE. Hope that gives enough clues. :|

Yes that has be the one. Thanks for that Gordon. It must have been the train I went up in further along that was narrow gauge, some sort of rack and pinnion railcar I think it was. Then we got a bus to the Heiden line terminus.

Such as the Trogener Bahn (does it still run under its own name?) from St Gallen and the regular Postbus from Trogen-Heiden

Were you following me? Exactly right, although we chartered the Postbus especially and it took us slightly off route. A great day out. :)

I suspect the other line was not the Trogener Bahn (out of St Gallen) but the RHEINECK - WALZENHAUSEN RACK RAILWAY. This line is 'unique' in having only one passenger vehicle, which for many years carried no number because theree was no need!

I did a similar circuit using the bus from Walzenhausen to Heiden way back in about 1982

Should have realised that the TB doesn't match the description of "rack and pinion" as it's all-adhesion with gradients a mere 1 in 13. My excuse is, it was 40 years ago....
