As an aside, people have been speculating about redevelopment of the Port area, lorry holding area, car parks etc.

From memory there are large tanks located under much of the car/lorry parking areas, which preclude any new structures being built above them, hence why the area has just been left to decay.

When I lived there in the first decade of this century, money was allocated to, and ring fenced for, both moving the station and building a transport interchange in the area by the Motorail dock...the fact that DGC somehow got away with moving those ring fenced funds elsewhere is quite disgraceful.

I guess unless it is legally binding that the council have to spend the money on what it was allocated for, I guess there is no recourse. Cynically perhaps that was their plan all along and the idea of moving the station etc. was all smoke and mirrors to appease the locals from not getting angry and turning up at Councillor surgeries to vent their anger!
