Relocation for a Trainee Driver Jobs

Hello,

I was wondering whether soemone can give me some advice. I know TOC are very strict on the live within ** mins of the depot.

I currently live in the East and want to move London later down the year however I know a job will be coming up with Avanti and London Euston is almost guaranteed to be looking.

SO, I have a few friends in London I’d move to when I move there however, I’d happily move earlier in order to qualify for this said job. I would essentially be sofa surfing and I would actually be in London and all.

My question is, would that be acceptable for any TOCs? I don’t want it to look like I’m lying and I’m happy to change my bank address and all so they know I’m actually living there but for the first few months I wouldn’t be renting anything myself or even working as I’d be doing earlier than planned and purely for this job.

When I signed my trainee driver contract it contained a clause that if I lived outside the 1hrtravel time that I must commit to relocate by the time my handling hours commenced. There were Quite a few people during the rules part of training that were staying at the local premier inn during the week and travelling home at the weekend ..I’m not saying that all tocs would allow this but just be upfront from the start and they’ll let you know what is or isn’t acceptable…

Some TOCs are strict, some aren’t. Mine appeared strict at application but plenty got through who weren’t within the required distance. However, I’m aware of another TOC that looks at your address and your depot address on Google maps during the DMI to discuss how you’ll get in at certain times.

In reality the various HR departments are likely to use different methods for verifying your address, so nobody will know how sofa surfing looks to Avanti specifically.
