Might be worth looking at some sort of house share.
Not ideal but if it's only for 6 months or so, would give you time to get on your feet and find out the lay of the land so to speak.

So once again a massive thank you to everyone for their help and advice. Thought it would be nice to update that I've found a place and commence my next chapter on Monday!

Nice one. Enjoy it, I'm more than a little jealous - the town of the Codebreakers is not a patch on Edinburgh!
