Relief Signaller working hours

Hi all,

Can anyone shed any light on the typical working hours of a relief Signaller? Appreciate its really all down to what you are rostered, but any existing reliefs who could share their typical working pattern would be most helpful! I've read things such as 10 days on then 10 off?

Recently just been hired as a Grade 7 @ Feltham just waiting for my start date to signal school in Leeds

Reliefs that I know have no work pattern, they work all sorts of hours on no real pattern at all...

You sure your relief mate? Last i heard the feltham jobs were meant to be permanent nights!!

Anyway, reliefs get their base roster which shows what the rest days they get are, and you get your roster the week before. But they don't work overly different hours to normal signallers, you just don't have the flexibility of knowing what you are working in weeks/months to come.

Indeed, it's a fairly similar rest day pattern to the residents on our patch, just without anywhere obvious to drop onto a week of nights (long weekend every four weeks, and RDs in the middle of the other two weeks). It's difficult to plan anything other than on rest days or Sundays, but the flexibility premium makes up for that (at least it does at 18% - not sure it'd be so tempting at a single location), and our roster clerk's always happy to try to return a favour.
