I just got my second rejection ?????? for a signaler job.

But this time it was at the paper sift stage.

The strange thing is that I managed to get to interview stage last time but this time I got rejected at the application form stage! Both roles were for a level 2 signaler, but at different location. I expected I would go straight through to an interview and this happened.

Can anyone explain why this would happen. The answers on my application form were copied from the first form!

Was the area covered by the same LOM?

Hi, I have had this before, it is basically down to the person reading the application and what one person likes another dosen't.
Keep trying.

Have you considered that you may have been up against some stronger candidates on this occasion? They only put a certain amount through to the interview stage for each role. So although it is marked against the same criteria as last time when compared against the marking of the other applications for this job you fell short this time.

Maybe they have a central database of previous applicants and because you failed you was on it and the computer automatically rejected your application.

This is exactly it.

If you've got to the interview stage before, that means you've been scored on all the other criteria. Losing out at the paper sift means that one of these scores has disqualified you, compared to the other candidates. No one has seen your application and discarded it based on anything else.

Keep applying.

Did you get feedback on your last interview?

It just seems an odd system. If I wanted the best person to go forward would I chose someone who has put in a good application form, but has not passed the assessment or someone who has already passed the assessment (and therefore must have put in a reasonable application form previously)? Who knows.

Anyway in terms of feedback, at the last interview, I was told that I answered everything well, apart from the communications question. Apparently if I had answered that correctly, I would have got the job, but someone else pipped me to the post :(

It doesn't matter how far you reached last time. You will only progress beyond the first stage if your application is one of the highest-scoring. Last time, it was; this time, it wasn't. It really is that simple.

Let's say your application score is 60. Last time, this was sufficient to place you in the top six (either because the competition wasn't as strong, or perhaps because there were only six or fewer applicants in total). This time, at least six other candidates achieved/carried over a higher score than 60, so your application was rejected. Next time, it may be different again. Keep trying.

At least you know which area you most need to polish (although I would try to hone all your examples). There are numerous posts on here providing good interview advice. Good luck!

stick at it, keep applying. 2nd sift rejection is usually stronger candidates, don't be downbeat about it- keep applying.
