Refurbed EMT 222

Currently travelling on the 1402 Nottingham to St Pancras International arr 1559, and the refurbed 5 car set is on, the only one i believe, i must say looks very nice indeed.... cant get photos as camera is broke.

Recently travelled on 222005. Is this the only 7-car set in the fleet, or does EMT move carriages around pretty often?

7-car is the longest you'll get these days, the original 9-car ones were reduced to 8 under Midland Mainline AFAIK (to lengthen some 4-car to 5-car), then EMT reduced them to 7 to increase all 4-car to 5-car (this was before the Hull Trains 222s arrived, so these are still 4-car).

Apparently created by "removing staff cabinets" - so some form of storage before I presume.

For most of last year EMT were operating a hybrid unit masquerading as 222005 with coaches from 222022 and 222101. (005 is now back to its correct formation).

I presume 222013 and 222101 are currently being refurbished as I haven't seen them in service this year.

222001-005 are the 7 cars, then 006-023 I believe are the 5 cars. And 222101-104 are the 4 cars.

It's been said recently that there is little traffic between Nottingham and London (hence more stops on such a short journey), has anyone that's done this route found this to be so? On loading from Nottingham is it really that quiet?

It would seem that if length of trains has been reduced a while ago then there can be no need for trains any longer it would seem. I find it a little odd though. What about Sheffield or are Sheffield trains run in 10car formation?

Most Nottingham workings yesterday were Meridens, with the Sheffield trains I saw being HSTs.

So fair to assume then that where you have a Nottingham to London serving few other stations, there isn't really a direct business market....interesting, especially when Sheffield loadings are busy for London. Nottingham has a few economic issues possibly in a way sheffield doesn't?!

The 2030 St Pancras - Nottingam is booked for a 5 car + 4 car and is usually almost full leaving St Pancras. On occasions when it is only one unit it can be heavily overcrowded.

Yeah I avoid the 4 car 222's whenever I can, by the time it stops at Loughborough it's usually completely packed.

Accountant nonsense as someone pointed out on the other thread...why the hell can't we have trains that are full of things called carriages or coaches? Every coach having to have an investment value is ridiculous - no way to run a railway!!! I think everything else is improving except the idea that every train must be packed or it's not fulfilling it's use. Crazy part of business being in charge over engineers and railwaymen.
