Refunding Web Purchased Tickets

Hi,

With the exception of AP tickets (obviously), can you obtain a refund for a ticket purchased over the Net at any station? Or does it have to be one of the TOCs who you purchased it through stations? Or do you have to go to the Moon to get it done?

Answers appreciated! For info, ticket in question is Anytime Single Leicester > Birmingham for use next month, which is now not needed!

If you purchased the ticket through the NXEC site, and presumably similar sites such as Southern, there is a refund facility on the site (at My account > My bookings > View > Refund). You have to have the ticket(s) because the ticket numbers are needed during the process. My experience is that it is efficient, except when you are cancelling some but not all of the tickets where more than one has been booked on one train. It then has a tendency to tell you it will cancel one combination of tickets, but actually cancel a different combination.

As far as I know, the other sites don't offer this facility and you have to search out the instructions on the particular site. My experience is that it normally involves a long and expensive telephone call.

If this is the £12.30 Standard Anytime Day Single, you can expect to get £2.30 after the deduction of the £10 admin fee. It is normally credited to the card used to buy the original tickets.

Unfortunately it's yet another example of what's not available due to the unacceptable behaviour of ATOC by ceasing to publish their Fares Manual.

My belief is that more TOCs have moved from £5 to £10 since September 2008.

Why didn't you get it on the day if it's an Anytime? Unfortunately you have to go through many hoops and it could take ages to get your money (minus "admin fee") back!

The admin fee is perfectly reasonable IMO.... You could always stick the ticket on ebay!

Yes it was sracasm - after the postage and ebay fees were taken into account the seller would receivevery little.

How about write the £12.30 off as bad planning and treat it like 4 pint on a friday - money down the pan.

Because it's sandwiched on the middle of a mega bash of APs and such that I've planned. However, stupidly on my part, I didn't realise that the fGW £5 off promotion was still running. If so, I could have saved the best part of £50.
