I've certainly not seen anything mentioned either way to be honest. I'd say an e-mail to customer.relations@crosscountrytrains.co.uk or a phone call to 08447 369 123 would be the way forward here.

Conditions might improve by the weekend (big if), so better check nearer the time. You don't want a situation where they cancel now expecting a refund then the train runs.

XC is running a near full service today, three cancellations this morning and nothing calling at Dunbar. Some of the Scottish services are starting/terminating at Edinburgh.

EC and Scotrail are accepting tickets for onward travel.

No mention on their website of refunds being given.

I believe refunds are only available if the train is cancelled. If your friend simply chooses not to travel then she is not automatically entitled to a refund.

From East Coast's website:
All ticket holders are advised to travel on their booked train wherever possible. Customers with East Coast Advance tickets for cancelled services can travel on a service 2 hours before or after the train specified on the original booking.

Customers whose train is cancelled and who therefore chose not to travel at all are entitled to a full refund, irrespective of ticket type with no administration fee.

That may have been XC's ambition at the start of the day, but with a days PPM figure of 52.2%, I'm pretty sure it's been anything but the case. Units dropping like flies, and delays to traincrew able to take up parts of diagrams too.

If she chooses not to travel, then that's her choice so no refund applies. However it is worth checking LDB on the day, as if the train is cancelled then a refund can be obtained. Similarly if a delay occurs a claim could be made.

So, hope it's cancelled!

She may also want to consider whether she wants to make the same journey within the next 12 weeks. An Advance ticket can be changed for another for the same journey on a different date. The change fee is £10 and she would also have to pay the difference if the new Advance ticket was more expensive.
