I purchased an Avanti only, 1st Class Day Return from Coventry to Wolverhampton with a Disabled Persons Railcard on Wednesday this week, through Uber / Omio, the cost being £13.65.

This was the day of the overhead line issues in the Birmingham area and having seeing the 1745 from Wolverhampton to Coventry was very late, I believe it left Wolverhampton 41 minutes late and got into Coventry around 58 minutes late, I decided the train wasn't worth the risk. Even with ticket acceptance for other operators e.g. the Cross Country scheduled around the same time from Wolverhampton was cancelled, I got a lift back instead.

I contacted Uber / Omio for a refund, not being exactly sure what was due. Obviously, I realise it's not delay repay, it's not travelling due to the disruption.

I've been issued a refund of £5.40 from the Day Return price of £13.65.

Does that figure make sense? I can't work.it out, though equally I wasn't sure what to expect. I possibly thought it might be around £6.82, which would be 50% of the ticket cost.

I know we're not talking a large amount, I just wondered if £5.40 is correct. If not, what should I have received?

Thank you.

They've refunded you the difference between the cost of your return ticket and the cost of a first class single. This would be the correct calculation for a refund requested due to a change of mind/plans (albeit you could also have an admin fee of up to £5 deducted).

As you abandoned your return journey due to the disruption, you are entitled to a 50% refund with no admin fee as you say. This is the correct procedure as per industry guidance, which reflects consumer rights law.

I would get back to Uber/Omio and clarify (if you didn't already say so) that this was an abandoned journey refund, hence you were expecting a 50% refund - so could they please refund the remaining difference.

Let's see what they say.
