Refueler strikes at Edinburgh Airport

The Unite union has indicated strike dates for refuelers at Edinburgh Airport starting 18th December.

Anyone understand this? The refueling company (North Air) seems to run services at Aberdeen, Belfast, Bristol, East Midlands, Gatwick, Glasgow, Manchester, Prestwick, Stanstead...
but no mention of strikes there.

According to a Unite news item:

The strike action will begin at 05:00 on 18 December and continue each day until 04:59 on 6 January. Unite warned last week that North Air had to make an improved pay offer if strike action was to be avoided over the festive period.

Despite Unite’s efforts to resolve the dispute to avoid widespread travel disruption, North Air has refused to re-enter pay negotiations with the union.

There was a news item on Reporting Scotland and I took it from the statement by whoever was talking on behalf of the union or the employees that they were unhappy that the employer expected them to accept the same deal that had been agreed with workers at 6 other sites.

This does not looks as bad as it first appeared, there is a quote in a story in the independent saying that there are other refueling companies used by airlines at Edinburgh so this would not affect EasyJet, Ryaniar and BA for example. Also impact on short-haul routes could be mitigated by refueling elsewhere.

I've got a lot of time for a lot of trade unions but there are some who do themselves no favours in the timings and severity of their announcements.
Anyone flying over Christmas from Edinburgh will immediately have become concerned that their breakaway/return home will be ruined.
Not one I could support, sorry.

What I understand is that while fuel is delivered to the airport by multiple companies, only North Air actually supply the fuel from tankers to planes. I'm not sure if Edinburgh has any underground fuel delivery systems, or if it's all supplied by tanker to the planes.

You would think this would be something the airport/airlines would have a contingency plan for.

Loganair are reported as saying they are not expecting to be affected as per this local news report:

The whole point of a strike is to cause maximum disruption because that, in turn, is what causes maximum financial pain to the company.

You can be sure their big customers will be giving the senior management an earful.
