I often see the trollies waiting on platform 2, Manchester Oxford Road, to board a train. Never boards mine though since my train only goes to the Airport.

I see trolleys on the platforms where these services are coming in and they do usually board these.

The only Northern sighting I have had is one the Leeds - Carlisle service which I believe is provided by the S&C Partnership, but I may be wrong.

There are trollies on some West Wales trains. Only yesterday a very nice lady asked me if I wanted a cup of tea, but I didn't see a trolley with her!

Someone had too.

But I've found the timetables to be awfully misleading the ones I mentioned are listed as being catered for. But they are usually only 20% of the time, if you're lucky.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here!

It's simply a group for people who appreciate being able to get some grub/drink on the train!

It might be because I only ever use of-peak trains...But I have to say that the last time I saw catering of any description on board a SWT service, I was travelling to Farnborough on a Class 442! hock:

I suppose it's possible I could simply be unlucky and missing every single one...But I can honestly say - Hand on heart - That I havn't seen any trolley or buffet on any SWT service I've used since at least 2004CE.

Maybe SWT need to increase their stock allocation to something more than the two trolleys that they have at the moment? (One of which is most likely the tea trolley at Wessex control)

@Death - sounds like you've been unlucky. SWT do have a surprising amount of catering on their trains, and a good selection of food.

Two trolleys per train? Sounds like the root of the problem is fairly obvious...What SWT need to do is distribute their trolleys differently (One per train should be about right!) so that the service can be extended to more passengers!

(That said; When I use one of the Weymouth or Southampton fasts, it's always on the section between Waterloo and Fleet. Is it possible the buffets/trolleys are only provided west of Basingstoke? )

Class 444s have buffets - I assume they're pretty much always open

The buffets are only really used on busy services, and even then just as a place to store the trolley. The stock is exactly the same.

I'd be suprised if they did since most (could be all) are based either at York or Man Pic.

That's right, think they board at Settle normally.

Class 444s have buffets - I assume they're pretty much always open

Always been closed whenever I've been on board a Wessex! When the 444s were first introduced, I made a few attempts to buy stuff from the buffets (This was before I started making a habit of visiting the supermarket before catching my train!) but I always got there to be faced with a lowered shutter. I gave up in the end...

Trust me, the trolleys are there on the SWT Weymouths.
They are just often hidden in the vestibule at the London end presumably cos the trains are too crowded to move the trolley along.

(From a semi regular 444 user- a north eastern lad with kids to visit in Wool)

Only ever seen the buffet space used once on a 444, serving stuff from the trolley.
