"Referrals"

Hi,

I will admit to spending a bit too long on here these days (OK, more than a "bit"). And during that time, I have sometimes looked at various members' profile pages to try to get a bit of a better understanding of them, and what they might be like as a person. (This is part of the reason I provide such a link in my signature, so others can do the same.) But one thing that has caught my attention is the "referrals" statistic. Many people have a number greater than zero next to this (last I knew, I did not), but very few seem to have more than one. On the other hand, I have seen one poster - a rather prominent one at that - who has over 20!

What is this for?

It's from when the forum was powered by phpBB.

Basically, each member would have a link in their profile, which if used by someone else to register would credit a referral against the first members name.

To an extent, the Google ads run the same system. Google display the ads on this forum, someone is interested in a particular advert and clicks it, Google then credits the forum for that click.

It's not; it's a feature of our current forum software.

When someone registers for a new account they can provide the Username of the person who referred you. Alternatively accessing the forum via /index.php?referrerid=*userid* means this field is filled in automagically on registration.

Fair enough, as I haven't had to register for a while, I've kind of lost track of what fields are there to be filled in
