Hi just a quick question,

im due to have a medical soon and have been given my start date already for my TOC in a month, currently in my job i am on a written warning for attendance, which was for about 6-7 days off in the year. im worried that when the references will come though and i lose the position because of this? am i getting too worried for nothing? some people said the references sometimes come through after you have started? what if i quit my current job to start and then they are not happy with the written warning?

please help

thanks

I'm assuming that when you applied for the job the TOC asked how many days off sick you had had in the last year like mine did? If so, and it matches, I can't see it would be much of an issue as long as everything else was ok. One of my references only provide standard 'this person worked here from x date to x date in x role' for all their references, my manager offered to do a personal one in case that wasn't enough but my TOC was happy with the basic one which surprised me.

I am currently in the same boat as you minus the warnings. My current employer doesn't want me to leave so I am very nervous that he will give me a crap reference or even just not reply to them with one, and could not get the job because of it, I already have passed my medical and my start date is in less than a month.. Has anyone ever heard of someone not being given the job in the end due to references?

in the interview i was asked how many sick days have i had this year and i said 5, a week later my car broke down! so now 6 and warning! they never asked me if i was under any warnings?

i spoke to my managers at work who love me and he said that usually a reference is just "yes this person works for us" btu sometimes they request personal references

I think companies will send a form with rate the employee out of 5 for timeliness, punctuality, attitude to work etc nowadays and the whole personal chat with someone is gone.

A bit harsh that mate. A warning for 6 days sick, what happens if you break your leg or something. Or even worse end up in hospital for weeks. The last interview I had they asked about my sickness/attendance record. So I wouldn't worry about it if you have already told them.

yeah my work is harsh, they work in spells, you can have 13 days of a year over 3 spells, so if you have 1 day, 1 day 1 day, thats 3 spells and its a DP! or 5 days 5 days 3 days is also 3 spells and same dp!

Sure all TOC/FOCS have some kind of sickness monitoring. Some have a 3 times then monitored for attendance and such. What I don't think is ideal is if say someone has say 5 1 days sick in the year and is warned about his sickness as then joe bloggs then has 2 3 month spells and nothing is said, that's all wrong in my eyes.
