I have an interview for guards next week with WMT however Im currently off sick from my current role.

I've suffered an illness which I'm hoping to be back in work shortly from but has kept me off work for 3 months while I undergo scans and tests etc, I am improving and nearing a return but am worried about costing me my dream role.

Will my current employer have to provide details of this, and can it be held against me by WMT ?

At this stage I wouldn’t worry about it. Easy for me to say, I know, but you need to focus on your interview and it’s unlikely to be asked about by WMT at this stage and will only need to be raised ‘when’ you are offered a job. You’ll most likely be asked about it as part of a pre-employment medical (you’ll more than likely have to declare any periods of illness on paperwork to take with you to your medical).

Nobody here can give you a definitive answer unfortunately, however you’ll be assessed thoroughly and will have a fair chance of explaining your situation to their occ health nurse/doc. As far as I’m aware, during referencing previous illness can’t be disclosed by your current employer like it used to, but don’t quote me in it.

Good luck with the interview!

They're not allowed to disclose this.

They are only allowed to confirm the number of days off sick, if an offer of employment has been confirmed, and you go on to accept it,

I would have thought that unless you are subject to any official disciplinary action by your current employer for unsatisfactory attendance it is not something they could divulge on a reference and even then they wouldn't be able to give details of the condition itself, just info about whatever sanction you are under [ i think this would need to be current, anything expired again wouldn't be acceptable to disclose]. It will be the new employer to ask the right questions as to your general health and for you to be honest in your answers. If the condition has no bearing on your ability to perform the role or give a satisfactory level of future attendance then it should be irrelevant. If it's long term or permanent condition then it may be covered under DDA in which case they will need to be careful that they do not discriminate against you because of it ..?
